Ryan Brasington
Ryan Brasington, Director of Worship
Ryan was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale where most of his immediate and extended family still lives. His father, Rev. Clay Brasington III, has been the Worship Minister for the Contemporary Service at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church since 1994 and his mother, Dee Brasington, works for Book of Hope International, a scripture distribution organization headquartered in Pompano Beach.
Often falling asleep at night to the sound of his dad worshipping at the piano, Ryan began the journey “from fear to faith” at an early age (for those bookworms out there, that’s an allusion to Ryan’s favorite book, Hinds’ Feet On High Places by Hannah Hurnard). After receiving the call of the Lord to the worship ministry at age 15, Ryan began leading worship as a sophomore in high school at Westminster Academy. There he formed several teams of musicians to lead worship for chapel services, youth group meetings, and other church-related activities until he graduated in 2000.
Upon graduation from high school, Ryan went to Tallahassee to pursue a degree from Florida State University. A voice student of Professor Roy Delp, he graduated with honors in 2004, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Choral Music Education with a voice principal. In December of 2003, Ryan married his high school sweetheart, Julia Wilson, who graduated in 2005 from FSU with a degree in Elementary Education. During Ryan’s college years he served as a worship leader at Wildwood Presbyterian Church for three years under Pastor Bob Evans, and then, toward the end of the third year, Wildwood planted a church downtown called Centerpoint where Ryan served for two years under the leadership of Pastor Chuck Ryor.
Ryan has a desire to see the Church (capital “C”) grow in the Biblical command to “Love the Lord [their] God with all of [their hearts], and with all [their souls], and with all [their minds]” by resounding the mandate to offer up costly worship both corporately and privately. He desires to exemplify the truth that “worship” is not merely a religious song or once-a-week liturgy, but a life lived before the Lord in continual surrender to His faithful presence. We achieve “continual” worship when that devotion is rooted in Faith instead of circumstances.
